With our lack of rain for several weeks the tulip trees have been dropping yellow leaves for weeks. There is now a pause, but our serviceberry trees have a few bright orange leaves to remind us that fall will eventually come, although it is months away.
The sassafrass tree at the end of our front path has been sending down brilliant leaves for several weeks. The tree knows Lammas is past, but the weather doesn't. Heat prevails on Long Island.

You're right, it's at least late summer if not early fall.
