Once in a while, someone or something comes into one's life just when she needs it. Today that someone was a bald eagle, hunting majestically over the frozen Clyde River with its talons extended.
All the morning's post-Christmas restlessness and vague yearning drifted away like smoke as I watched, and suddenly, there I was again, feeling gloriously alive, thankful and in the midst of a wild elemental magic that is almost heart stopping in its grace and grandeur.
I came home and tried to write about it, but this (alas) is the best I can do. There are some things in life which are simply beyond expression.

Stunningly, beautifully poignant.
Merry Christmas to you..
Oh Cate, that eagle does look magical!
I am happy for this moment you could experience. This One Woman needs something like that at the moment.
Just recently, sans camera, I have encountered these magnificent birds in the sky near me and held my breath while they hurried overhead. They are even back in some cities.
Wow, I recently saw a hawk dive and catch a rodent but that pales in comparison to your eagle sighting. Beautiful!
Very nice. For the past eight years, I'm been lucky to live along one of the major raptor routes http://www.hawkridge.org but every bald eagle sighting still feels special.
Cate, I'd say you did pretty well expressing your thoughts here. The image is breath-taking, and your words help to share a moment. I'm so glad I stopped by to "catch up."
oh, how i understand your words. when i saw my first bald eagle i could not speak and tears rolled down my face. i am still moved deeply when i see them. they fly over our home en route to a local lake where they often fish for dinner. we are between 2 lakes where they eat and nest. i feel so blessed by this good fortune.
this photograph is splendid!
