Early Guest in the Garden

American goldfinch (Spinus tristis

The goldfinches visiting the garden in winter are not as brightly coloured as they were last summer, but the little dears are welcome visitors for all that. Their delight on discovering that our feeders have been topped up with fresh munchies for their breakfast buffet is something to behold.

  1. Your goldfinches are back already? Wow, you really must be further south. Although we've had melty days lately, so who knows what's in store. -Kate

  2. There are a few here all winter, Kate, and they visit the feeders regularly.

    1. We won't see them here again till well into spring. But then we have lots of them around the yard all summer.

  3. I have yet to see one this winter. However, this morning at minus 4F, someone was singing.
