Wordless Wednesday - Flay Craw

  1. "Flay craw" is a lovely old expression for a scarecrow, and one finds it used in "Moonwise" by Greer Gilman, a rare and magical novel for those who love words and etymology. It is also to be found in the works of Charles Dickens and in F.T. Dinsdale's splendid "Forgotten English".

  2. Thank you for the explanation--I wondered what it meant and hadn't yet looked it up.
