Friday Ramble

Our rambles this week have been short, but we continue to take them, for Cassie insists on going, even as she grows weaker. My pockets are full of tissues, and there are times when I can hardly see a thing in the hedgerows for all my tears, but off we go anyway. I do not cry gracefully, and I am quite an apparition as we go along.

My girl has been the most gifted, loving and graceful of teachers, and I thank Fran at Sacred Ordinary for her thoughtful creation of an "Animal Writes" page - reading Matthew's Fox's thoughts about the spiritual lessons which animals teach us was a great comfort this week.

Thank you, Fran, and indeed all of you for your kindness as Cassie and I make our way along this path.

  2. I am so sorry you are going through this sad time. How blessed you are to have known Cassie and to have such peaceful times with her before she runs ahead to wait for you in the next life...

My dog Jadie (age 6) is ill right now too... I'd be grateful if you might mention her to Cassie and ask for a doggy prayer. I've posted Jadie's pics on my blog...

  3. Saying goodbye is the price of love. You are entitled to say it with as much gusto as you want. Hold on, but then let go.

  5. To me it seems that our animal companions teach us to slow down, to lengthen the moment, to live more in the now.

And then they move on ahead of us so much more quickly than we do, and it's almost a shock. They teach us about love, and they teach us about loss.

I'm sad for you, that you are in the midst of this painful goodbye. I'm glad for you, that you have had this wonderful bond.

  8. Steve has just said it more eloquently than I would probably have done. Animals live in the moment, a moment pared down to the essentials.

My continued love and thoughts and prayers for you and Cassie. I am lighting candles for you both.
