Moonless Night

Moonless night, these
drowsing wind-stirred trees,
deep twilight, streaks
of rose gold, violet and
russet splashed
over the darkening hill.

Paint this hallowed night with
a broad and starry brush,
and remember this: the dark is
never truly moonless —

We simply cannot see.
