Thursday Poem - For the Children

The rising hills, the slopes,
of statistics
lie before us.
The steep climb
of everything, going up,
up, as we all
go down.

In the next century
or the one beyond that
they say,
are valleys, pastures,
we can meet there in peace
if we make it.

To climb these coming crests
one word to you, to
you and your children:

stay together,
learn the flowers,
go light.

Gary Snyder, from Turtle Island

Thanks, I just lightened up a bit. A sigh. Shifting my body against gravity. Moving slower. Breathing deeper. Same to you.

Sigh, not a recent image. . . there are at least four feet of snow in the corner of the garden where our snowdrops come up every year. The way things are going this winter, it may be the end of April before we see snowdrops or crocus or any flowers at all. We have not seen the birdbath for several weeks.
