I made buttermilk scones last night -- house still smells heavenly.

Ah yes, that fine buttermilk scone smell... It was actually cool enough to bake here last evening without turning the whole house into a sauna - I made bread, olive studded foccaccia and molasses cookies. Our house smelled good too.

I am looking forward to that first crisp day in Fall when I can start my bread, scone, and cookie baking in earnest. When my home smells of goodness like that, I am taken back to being a little girl again. I give this sensory memory now to my own little girl. When she is an adult I hope she will be able to settle in, bake something, savor....and remember.
