Spencerly Dudgeon

My poor Spencer..... He needed surgery this week to remove a large cyst from the inside of his right upper eyelid. The surgery went very well, but alas, recuperation requires that our boy wear an Elizabethan collar for several days to prevent him from "worrying" the incision and dissolving the sutures prematurely.

He absolutely loathes the collar, and he is not a happy camper. When I snapped this image, he had just gathered up his favorite blanket, his sheepskin doggy bed, one of my shawls and the entire contents of his toy box. He arranged everything on the sofa in the study to his own liking, and plunked himself down on the heap with a disgruntled expression, much grumbling and cussing.

This is a a terrible picture, but my furry son is truly embarrassed by his predicament, and he does not want to have his picture taken - he gives me filthy looks and turns his head when he sees me approaching with the camera. To say that his outlook on life is a tad sour and somewhat jaundiced is something of an understatement, and his look says it all - remove the darned collar, Mum, and do it NOW.

Poor poor Spencer! The indignities our furry children have to put up with are great. Thanks for sharing, we never get tired of pics of Spencer.

The green thing under Spence's paw is his "funky sheep", a much loved green stuffed toy which spends its time (a) being tossed about (b) in the washing machine (c) dangling from the clothesline.

Dear disgruntled Spencer, bless him. His look does say it all.

I loved that he gathered his most comforting possessions and situated himself. A blankie too, I adore his personality!

Pleased to hear he will be fine and out in the woodlands soon.

Thank you for sharing.

I suppose I would be a little unhappy too. Poor fellow. I hope his healing goes well. xx

Poor boy! Hoping for a speedy recovery, Spencer. Thanks for the giggle at his expense, Cate. ;-)

Oh, that look says it all. Poor Spencer, I hope you heal soon!

Cate, you have my sympathy, too. I have been on the receiving end of some looks like that from my furry children. Makes me feel like the worst Mum in the world, even though I know it's for their own good.

My children keep coming to the computer wanting to see the picture of the hurt puppy. My youngest, who is autistic and doesn't talk, makes doggy noises when he looks at Spencer...a kindred spirit

He knows the art of self-care though...he gathered all his favorite things and settled in. Heal fast Spencer!

Been there and done that with a four-legged companion. It is so hard because they do not understand why they are being punished.

Poor Spencer, those collars are so hateful. My Bayley knows--he too has had one not too long ago. Hugs and healing thoughts surround you, darling.

Awww, poor Spencer. I hope his recovery is quick and thorough.

Oh Spencer, I don't blame you for cussing--how awful to have to wear that collar--not your style at all. Heal quickly and trust that your mum acts out of love when she forces that thing on you.

i suspect spencer's language was more aggressive than, "remove the darned collar..."

bless his heart. glad he is ok now and glad there is such a thing as this collar. wish my sheltie had used one when she took out all her stitches 24 hrs after being spayed many years ago!
