Lammas Thistle

Bull Thistle
(Cirsium vulgare)

Close on the heels of the veterinarian's assessment that my Cassie doesn't have far to go now, there came the heartbreaking news that an old friend and someone I loved very much has passed away suddenly on the Big Island in Hawaii.

The weight of events has me reeling, sorrowing and oftentimes in tears. So much spirit and wisdom lost, so much light and warmth gone from this old world, so much goodness and humor, so much fierce love and true wildness.

This Lammas (or Lugnasadh), I light a candle for my loved ones, and I pray that their journey beyond the fields we know is easy and peaceful. May the Air carry their spirits, and may Water wash away their pain and suffering. May the Earth receive them with a mother's love, and the Fire of the stars guide them home to the Old Wild Mother. May the Wheel turn again and bring them to rebirth. May we meet again somewhere up the trail and journey on together.

Happy Lammas to each and every one of you.

What a painful time, Cate. And how much love you are showing to Cassie. Still thinking and praying for you both, and lighting the candles.

Such a beautiful prayer for your lost loved one. I hope you will find comfort in your loss, Cate. To have two sorrows sitting together is a lot to bear. My heart goes out to you.

I went outside and lit a candle and said a prayer to the night sky for you both.

I am sorry for your loss. Already opened to the gradual grief you are feeling daily, I imagine this is harder to carry.
