Cassie

My girl had liver cancer, and there was nothing we could do for her except medicate her and keep her comfortable. Toward the end, she was so thin.

On Friday evening, we lifted her onto our bed, and she curled up between us and went to sleep. A little after midnight, she gave a contented sigh and simply stopped breathing.

As I wrote after the passing of a beloved friend only two weeks ago: may the air carry her spirit gently, and water wash her clean of pain and suffering. May the fire of the stars guide her home to the Old Wild Mother, and may the Earth receive her gently. May the Wheel turn again and bring her to rebirth.

She is somewhere in a wild place and running free as she so loved to do in life - she was poetry in motion running through the woods or floating swiftly along through the fields in Lanark with her tail wagging ecstatically and a happy grin on her beautiful expressive face. Her mom (on the other hand) is a complete and total mess.

I believe that our grieving helps carry our beloveds as they continue their journeys. We are so blessed to have these beautiful animals in our lives. Peace to you, Cate.

I'm so sorry. I just lost my dog a little over a week ago, so I know what a hole this can leave in our lives. My consolation is that he's no longer tied to an old, sick and painful body. Many blessings to Cassie on her journey, and to you in your time of loss.

Blessings, Cate, to you and your family in the loss of dear Cassie. You let her know how she was cherished by your loving care in these last weeks. May time heal your sadness and may happy memories keep Cassie close to your heart.

I understand, having lost Daisy our beloved Basset Hound and Tobey our sweet Virginia Walker Hound in the last 4 years. We miss them still.

Peace be with you - Barbara

I know how you feel, having been in this place a number of times myself. Remember that you gave her a good life, and a good death. None of us can ask for more.

Cate, I can picture Cassie in her "wild place" running free. Cassie was so lucky to have been your companion, in your wandering and contemplations, as you were lucky to have her.

much love and sympathy,
Aisling

I wept when I read "For Cassie" and I send you peace and healing on the loss of your beloved companion. Yet what a wonderful way to pass out of this dimension, nestled between people she loved.
